Old Huge Primitive FOLK ART Oil Painting, TOMATO BASKET
1930s UNFRAMED OIL PAINTING Striking large vintage unframed oil on canvas painting measuring 24" long and 12" tall. Featuring a large dark still life of ripe tomatoes stacked in a large bushel, and an individual fruit basket with one sliced open on a wood cutting board, painting has a wonderful folky appeal. Dating to the 1930s, canvas is mounted and stapled to a wood frame with corner blocks. Condition is very good - I can see two minute 1/2" long slices in the canvas - they show faintly from the back and appear as slightly lighter spots on the front (one is on the small basket, the other in the right hand corner) - these do not detract in the least. Well executed with a primitive approach to the still life, colors are deep and rich, giving the painting a much older feel. Think this was originally framed as I can see one tiny rub in the upper left corner from frame contact - that is probably why the edges are so clean.
